The method of collecting the money seems a little inefficient, almost as though the gov are not really interested. In my own view, a single man with no children, the easy solution to the problem would be simply to add a notch to the father's PAYE, then when he is in work he will pay extra tax, the sum of which is then either put in the mother's bank account or deducted from her PAYE.

Okay, simple arithmetic is far too complicated for our Civil Service to understand.

You see, if they cannot understand how to take money from Paul to pay to Jane, how the hell are they supposed to know how to manage an ID register with the entire pop on-board? Its not going to happen, is it?

You've got my sympathy. The CSA never did me any good. The first time they tried to sort out my case (Remember it was compulsory?) they found my ex didn't have to pay anything then sent me a bill for 鎷?0. I complained so they sent me a bill for鎷?0. I refused to pay and suggested they take me to court for the debt. I'd been made unemployed at the time and wasn't liable. I knew that but apparently their staff didn't.

The agency had the best intentions but is run so badly its a bad joke.

My ex got away without paying a bean by just refusing to pay, and eventually moving abroad.

Lisa, Gov't Child Support Agencies are EXTREMELY ineffective. THEY are not in your shoes. They are not tormented by choices like-- Do I take my child to the dentist OR do I pay the electric bill?

If you should DARE share your frustration over being helpless to provide proper care for your children, some actually turn on you with an attitude of "Hey, you married the deadbeat WHAT do you want US to do about it?"

I made $20,000/yr and my ex made $70,000. He moved 5 states away %26amp; worked for CASH under the table. (He sold used cars.) No one did anything. I finally contacted a private business that collects delinquent child support. In USA, they can take 1/3 of what ever they collect, but no upfront fees to get started.

My ex owed $86,000. They sued him but we only got $15,000 'cause by then he had almost zero left. I'm not sure what's available in your country but DO try. 2/3rds of something is better than zero.

Most people just don't get it....everyone says "take em to court", as if that's all powerful. They don't understand the devious ways deadbeats have to evade support payments.

They don't understand when you say the gov't isn't helping. They are very niave %26amp; believe those of us who complain are just airing dirt to get revenge. It doesn't affect THEM, so why should they care?

Isn't this the same reasoning that allowed Hitler to kill so many innocent Jews? If I'm not Jewish I've got nothing to worry about? Apathy. It sucks.

And while we are at this just what is the governments stand on this? what are these single parents suposed to do in order to make ends meet?

Sorry I cannot do anything to stop the pending world economic disaster. C.S.A. hear in the U.S. is also "Casting Society of America" and may be Confederate Sons of Alabama! -- and a lot of other stuff for all I know.

It seems that almost every government agency in the U.S. and in the U.K. is degrading. I wouldn't expect any more help from the BBC than I would from Fox News or CBS here.

I think your children are very lucky to have you, as many do not have a "real" mother -- and usually a real mother is the best marker of a real woman.

I know you don't like period stuff -- but keep a "stiff upper lip for now." All the answers are really with us. Maybe this loss of hope will allow you to find hope in something that will work.

I would like to joke a bit, but this is not the place or time. Just don't scrap yourself in dispare with the Old system; especially during the holidays. You have the heart and mind to do it.

The CSA was a joke from start to finish. I agree that parents should pay for their children but on a sensible scale. I have a fried who pays over the odds for his kid and is happy to do so but the situation is a complete farse. His wife left him for another man. He had not bean cheating and was happily married or so he thought. Mum got custody of the little boy and the dad agreed. He paid his maintenance without fail and got to see the little boy around twice a month. The mum moved another man into the family home which he had left. After about 14 months the other man left her for another woman. She decided she could not cope and took the boy around to his dads house and basically dumped him on the door saying she could not cope. My friend works full time and had to pack his job in so he could take care of the lad. 9 months down the line he still has to pay the same as he was before for maintenance ? The CSA say they cant do anything untill it gets heard before a magistrate as the ex wife gives her consent to have the payments stopped. He is now on the verge of having his house taken away as he is not working, missing morgage payments and still paying maintenence when he is looking after the boy. The system stinks and i know it works the other way too with dads getting away with paying nothing and the mum being left in the ****. Not having a go at parents on either side just the way the goverment have addressed the situation. Rant over.

I feel for you but the CSA is a duff organisation which failed to take account of a persons earnings and outgoings.

They have made unrealistic demands on men over the years. Complete fantasy. The point is, for separated women, how long after splitting up do you think it is realistic for a man/society expect you to start to look after yourself and get a job.

You cant depend on someone all your life. Is it not time you get hooked to someone else? I don't think that men should pay anything to their exes after a reasonable period of time.

But can contribute to the children's upkeep depending on available resources. After taking out expenses. This is where the CSA failed and should be disbanded. If you are in need then go to the DSS.

My god, your ex does look like a bit of a twat! The tight bastard wont even shell out for his own kids. I wouldn't want someone like him in my unit if we were being attacked by some crazy middle eastern mother *******. Your ex is the type who would probably crawl into a corner and blubber! You're better off on your own.
